Decision-making support tools in forest management


Research and application of multi-criteria optimization methods to address problems of adaptive forest management with multiple functions:

– Analysis of properties and development of multi-criteria optimization methods for complex systems – besides classical methods of mathematical programming, we have applied methods of heuristic optimization, such as the method of rational goals and interactive decision maps or various algorithms of evolutionary optimization

– Assessment of the potential for their application in forest management planning aimed at achieving the simultaneous fulfillment of conflicting demands of forest owners, managers and society on provisioning, regulating and cultural ecosystem services provision (participatory scenarios, backcasting)

– Developing adaptive planning procedures based on a simulation-optimization approach, and using the information obtained through forest inventory and monitoring procedures, taking account of the rapidly changing natural and socio-economic conditions
